Overview
Finding a smart plug that natively supports Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, AND Google Home has historically been a challenge. Most budget smart plugs are Alexa/Google-only, while genuine HomeKit-certified devices typically command a significant price premium. Meross changed this with their MSS210 smart plug — a compact, well-built Wi-Fi smart plug with native support for all three major ecosystems at a surprisingly affordable price.
In 2025, the Meross MSS210 and its variants remain some of the most popular smart plugs among iPhone users who want HomeKit integration without paying Eve Energy prices. Let's see whether the value proposition holds up in our testing.
Meross Smart Plug MSS210
Wi-Fi smart plug with native HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Home support. Compact design, physical button, LED indicator. Available in single and multi-pack.
Check Price on AmazonDesign & Physical Features
The Meross MSS210 has a compact rectangular form factor that sits flush with the wall socket — it doesn't block the second socket in a duplex outlet, which is a surprisingly uncommon feature among smart plugs. Its dimensions are deliberately slim to avoid outlet-hogging. The plug is available in white and black finishes.
A physical button on the front face allows manual on/off control even without app or voice access — useful during setup or internet outages. A small LED indicator shows device state: solid white when on, off when the plug is off. The button can be configured to enable/disable in the app for child safety.
The MSS210 supports up to 15A/1800W — adequate for most household applications: lamps, fans, small heaters, coffee machines, and similar devices. It's not rated for high-draw appliances like air conditioners or large electric heaters.
Setup & Multi-Ecosystem Support
Setup is handled via the Meross app (iOS/Android). The process involves plugging in the device, pressing the button to enter pairing mode, and following the in-app wizard to connect to your Wi-Fi. The process takes about 2–3 minutes and is reliable — we've never had a pairing failure with Meross plugs in our testing.
What makes the Meross MSS210 exceptional is its multi-ecosystem support achieved through a single setup:
- Apple HomeKit: Scan the HomeKit code on the plug during setup — it adds directly to the Apple Home app as a native HomeKit accessory
- Amazon Alexa: Enable the Meross skill in the Alexa app and link your Meross account
- Google Home: Link via the Google Home app's "Works with Google" section
- SmartThings: Supported via cloud integration
Having all three ecosystems working simultaneously is genuinely useful in mixed-ecosystem households — one family member using Alexa, another using Siri, and automations running via Google Home can all control the same plug without conflict.
HomeKit Integration
Native HomeKit certification is the MSS210's headline feature. Once paired to HomeKit, the plug behaves exactly as you'd expect any HomeKit accessory to: it's controllable via Siri ("Hey Siri, turn off the lamp"), visible in the Apple Home app, and can be included in HomeKit automations and scenes.
HomeKit automations with the MSS210 are reliable and fast — switch commands execute within 1–2 seconds via HomeKit, slightly slower than the local REST API but fast enough for normal use. If you have an Apple TV or HomePod as a HomeKit hub, remote control of the plug is available from anywhere via the Home app.
One important note: Meross HomeKit accessories require a HomeKit hub (Apple TV, HomePod, or iPad set as a hub) for remote access and automations when you're away from home. This is standard HomeKit behaviour, not specific to Meross. If you don't have a HomeKit hub, you can still control the plug when on your home Wi-Fi, but remote access won't work.
Reliability & Performance
Long-term reliability is where budget smart plugs often fall short, so we tested the MSS210 over an extended period. Our verdict: it's solid. In 12 months of continuous use across multiple units, we experienced no unexplained disconnections, no failed commands, and no firmware update issues. The Meross app and cloud backend have been consistently available.
Wi-Fi connectivity is stable on both 2.4GHz networks. Like all Wi-Fi smart devices, the MSS210 requires a 2.4GHz network — it doesn't support 5GHz. This is standard for IoT devices and shouldn't be a problem for most home networks, but worth noting if your router is configured with a 2.4GHz and 5GHz network under the same SSID.
Response latency via the Meross app (cloud) is typically 1–3 seconds. Via HomeKit on a local network, it's faster — 0.5–1.5 seconds. These are acceptable for most use cases, though noticeably slower than local-only devices like Shelly.
The plug operates without a cloud connection for basic functions if you have a HomeKit hub — HomeKit commands go hub-to-device locally without hitting Meross servers. This provides meaningful cloud independence for HomeKit users.
Energy Monitoring
The standard MSS210 does not include energy monitoring — it's a simple on/off smart plug. Meross offers the MSS310 variant with energy monitoring (real-time watts, cumulative kWh) for a modest price premium. If energy monitoring is important to you, the MSS310 is worth the extra few dollars.
The MSS310's energy monitoring data is accessible in the Meross app, through Alexa, and via the Home Assistant Meross integration. HomeKit itself doesn't currently expose energy monitoring data from Meross plugs, though this is an Apple Home limitation rather than a Meross issue.
Verdict
Our Verdict: 4.5/5 — Best Value HomeKit Smart Plug
The Meross MSS210 is the best HomeKit smart plug available at its price point. Native HomeKit certification, Alexa, and Google Home support in a compact, reliable form factor makes it an exceptional value proposition — particularly for iPhone users who want Siri control and HomeKit automations without spending £40+ on an Eve Energy or similar premium product.
The lack of energy monitoring in the base model and cloud-dependent latency (for non-HomeKit commands) are minor limitations. For HomeKit-primary users, the local performance via a HomeKit hub is good. For the price, it's a near-perfect product.
Buy if: You use Apple HomeKit and want affordable native HomeKit smart plugs. Also great for mixed-ecosystem households.
Skip if: You want energy monitoring (get the MSS310 instead) or fully local control (consider Shelly devices).
