The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is what happens when robot vacuum makers stop pretending they are building simple vacuums and just admit they are building floor-cleaning robots with a small supporting appliance attached. Between the robot itself and the massive all-in-one dock, this is a premium cleaning system more than a standalone gadget.

And annoyingly for your wallet, it is extremely good. If you want the closest thing to a “mostly hands-off” robot vacuum and mop in 2025, the S8 Pro Ultra is still one of the strongest contenders. It maps quickly, avoids obstacles well, vacuums carpets hard, mops intelligently, and requires less routine babying than cheaper rivals.

Dock & Maintenance

The Ultra dock is the real headline. It empties the dustbin, washes the mop, refills the robot's water tank, and dries the mop pad to reduce smells. That dramatically cuts down the annoying maintenance that turns cheaper robot vacuums into high-maintenance pets after the first month.

You still need to empty dirty water, top up clean water, and replace consumables periodically, but you are no longer manually washing mop pads after every run or emptying the tiny onboard dustbin constantly. For busy households, this is the difference between “nice when I remember to use it” and “actually part of the routine.”

Cleaning Performance

Vacuum performance is excellent on hard floors and very strong on carpet. The dual roller setup helps reduce hair tangles compared with older single-brush designs, and suction is more than enough for dust, crumbs, tracked-in dirt, and everyday debris. In homes with pets, it handles fur well, though thick seasonal shedding still benefits from more frequent runs.

Mopping is also genuinely useful here, not just a damp cloth dragged around for marketing purposes. It does not wander around making existential decisions in the hallway.

Obstacle avoidance is good enough that we trust it more than many cheaper robots, though no robot is infallible around cables, socks, pet toys, and the occasional mysterious Lego shard. It is better than average, not magical. That is still praise in this category.

App & Smart Features

The Roborock app is one of the best robot vacuum apps available. Room-based cleaning, custom routines, mop intensity, vacuum power, carpet settings, and detailed maps are all easy to understand. Integration with Alexa and Google Assistant is straightforward, and Home Assistant users can integrate Roborock with a bit of effort depending on model and API support.

We particularly like Roborock's approach to routines. You can create targeted automations like “vacuum kitchen after dinner” or “mop hallway and kitchen every weekday morning.” That helps the robot feel like part of the home rather than a gadget you manually trigger.

Downsides

The first and largest downside is price. This is a flagship product and it is priced like one. The second is size: the dock needs real floor space. Third, while the mop system is strong, edge mopping is still not perfect, and baseboards remain a weak point for most round robots, this one included.

You also have to accept the reality that “self-cleaning” still means “less cleaning,” not “zero cleaning.” Rollers, filters, and sensors still need attention over time.

Verdict

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is one of the best robot vacuum systems you can buy if your goal is maximum automation with minimum fuss. It vacuums well, mops well, navigates smartly, and its dock dramatically reduces maintenance fatigue.
