The Eufy Video Doorbell E340 is the most interesting doorbell camera on the market in 2025, and for a very specific reason: it has two cameras. While one camera points forward in the traditional sense, a second downward-facing camera is dedicated to capturing packages placed on your doorstep. For anyone tired of vague "package detected" notifications on single-camera doorbells, this is a game-changer.

And it does all of this without charging a penny in subscription fees. Let's dig in.

The Dual-Camera Difference

The E340's killer feature is its dual-camera design. The main 2K camera points forward, covering the typical face-level field of view. But below it sits a second 1080p camera angled downward at about 60°, specifically designed to capture what's happening at foot level — packages, mats, and anyone crouching near your door.

The Eufy app shows both feeds simultaneously in a split-screen view. When a package is detected, you get a notification with a clear view of the parcel from the downward camera. We tested this with everything from small envelopes to large boxes, and it detected and clearly captured every single one.

This is a massive improvement over the "package detected" alerts from single-camera doorbells, which often show little more than a blurry blob at the edge of the frame. With the E340, you can clearly see what was delivered, whether it's still there, and whether anything looks disturbed.

Video Quality

The main 2K camera is exceptional. In daylight, footage is sharp, colour-accurate, and delivers genuinely useful detail — you can easily read text on packages, identify faces, and see vehicle licence plates at closer ranges. The 2K resolution has a clear advantage over 1080p doorbells when you zoom in on footage.

Night vision on the E340 is one of the best we've tested. Eufy calls it "colour night vision," and it genuinely delivers — ambient light from street lamps and porch lights is amplified to produce full-colour video even in low-light conditions. Only in total darkness does it fall back to infrared black-and-white.

The downward package camera records at 1080p, which is more than sufficient for its purpose. Footage is clear and the wide-angle lens captures the full doorstep without blind spots.

Local Storage & Privacy

This is where the Eufy E340 truly differentiates itself. All video is stored locally on the Eufy HomeBase 3 hub (which can be purchased as a bundle or separately). The HomeBase includes 16GB of built-in storage, upgradeable with a hard drive up to 16TB. Local storage means:

For privacy-conscious users, this is significant. Your footage never goes to Eufy's (or anyone else's) servers unless you explicitly opt into cloud storage. The HomeBase handles all AI processing locally too, so face recognition and smart alerts are processed on-device.

Note on Past Privacy Issues: Eufy had a security incident in 2022 where footage was briefly accessible via cloud streams without authorisation. They've since audited and hardened their security architecture. The E340 with local-only storage is now considered among the most private doorbell cameras available.

App & Smart Features

The Eufy Security app is well-designed and responsive. The home screen shows both camera feeds with live status. Motion events are listed in a clean timeline with thumbnail previews, and playback is smooth and fast.

AI detection is impressive for a free service: person detection, package detection, pet detection, and vehicle detection all work reliably without any subscription. You can customise which types of events trigger notifications, reducing alert fatigue significantly.

Smart home integrations cover Alexa, Google Assistant, and — notably — Apple HomeKit. This makes the E340 one of very few doorbell cameras with full HomeKit support, allowing it to integrate with Apple Home app, Siri shortcuts, and HomeKit Automations. For Apple household users, this is a significant advantage.

Installation

The E340 requires existing doorbell wiring — it's wired-only with no battery option. If you have standard 8–24V AC doorbell wiring, installation is straightforward. The unit is slightly taller than most doorbells due to the dual-camera design, so check that it fits your doorbell housing before purchasing.

You'll also need to set up the HomeBase hub indoors, connected to your router via Ethernet. The app walks you through the process step by step. Total installation time is around 20–30 minutes including hub setup.

Verdict

SmartWired Verdict: 9/10 — Outstanding

The Eufy Video Doorbell E340 is the best no-subscription doorbell camera available in 2025. The dual-camera design solves the package detection problem definitively, 2K video quality is excellent, and full HomeKit support makes it uniquely versatile. The only real limitation is the requirement for existing wiring and the HomeBase hub — but if you can accommodate those, this is an outstanding buy.
